Small Island Developing States: Restoring nature together to underpin resilient prosperity in SIDS

Fauna & Flora in collaboration with RE:wild, The Government of Saint Lucia and the Environmental Awareness Group will be hosting a SIDS conference Offsite Side Event under the theme “Restoring nature together to underpin resilient prosperity in SIDS”.

About the event

This inspiring fireside panel discussion will showcase inspiring stories of bringing islands back from the brink through partnership-led ecological restoration. Building on Saint Lucia’s experience, the first Caribbean SIDS to restore an offshore island, through to more recent partnership island restoration projects in other Caribbean SIDS and beyond, this session will draw out the ways in which nature can revitalise SIDS’ economies and contribute to targets and commitments under international climate change, biodiversity and land degradation treaties. Exploring the economic benefits for communities in SIDS of these island restorations, from climate adaptation to income generation, will lead to a discussion on how to inspire the scaling up from offshore islands to main islands and beyond.  The dialogue, moderated by Fauna & Flora’s CEO, Kristian Teleki, will bring out perspectives and best practices from government and community organisations and will be followed by a networking opportunity.
