Fauna & Flora has been working on marine conservation in Cambodia since 2010, building our knowledge base around coastal and marine biodiversity, offering support to a small-scale fisheries and spearheading the development of a national marine protected area (MPA) network.
Our work spans the entire coastline, from Koh Kong coastal complex and the Koh Sdach Archipelago in the North, to the Koh Rong Archipelago, Kampot and Kep in the South.
Our vision is for Cambodia to have healthy marine and coastal ecosystems that are resilient to anthropogenic impacts including infrastructure development and climate change.
Please donate today, and help protect Cambodia’s incredible coastal and marine environments.
How is Fauna & Flora helping to protect Cambodia’s coastal and marine environments?
Biodiversity Research
Our biodiversity research includes the mapping of coral reef, seagrass, and mangrove habitats. We also conduct surveys on fish, invertebrates, sea turtles, and seahorses as well as coastal mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects.
We constantly assess whether our work aligns with global best practices and closely follow new field survey technologies, such as underwater drones and eDNA, that could enhance our impacts

Marine Protected Area Development
We enabled the creation of the nation’s first Marine National Park, which now serves as a model for other sites. We aim to improve the management of 729 km of existing MPAs and protect an additional 685 km of Cambodian waters, whilst collaborating with government to establish the country’s first MPA sustainable financing mechanism.
Restoring Habitat
Aiming to conserve and restore mangrove forests, Fauna & Flora, as a member of the Global Mangrove Alliance, implements best practices based on global knowledge.

Building Local Capacity and Awareness
We are engaging local communities and other stakeholders along the coast to raise awareness on the value of marine resources, which are under increasing pressures from infrastructure development and unsustainable use.
Combating Marine Plastics
We have established baseline data and created strategic partnerships to address marine plastic pollution, bringing in all key players to the table to develop a National Action Plan. We are also working on single use plastic reduction in coastal communities by focusing on behavior change.

Livelihood support to coastal communities
Through socio-economic surveys and fisheries value chain analysis, we aim to better understand community needs to provide suitable livelihood diversification support.
Fauna & Flora is proud to work with the Fisheries Administration, the Ministry of Environment and other expert NGO’s and organizations. Together we aim to safeguard coastal and marine ecosystems, and the species that depend on them, for future generations.
Action on the illegal trade in marine wildlife
We work closely with authorities and communities across the coastline to quantify and reduce endangered species by catching and illegal trade, particularly for sea turtles.
