It was with great sadness that Fauna & Flora International (FFI) received news of the death of His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip.
Mark Rose, Chief Executive of FFI, said: “Throughout his life, The Duke of Edinburgh gave sterling support to the conservation cause and was ahead of his time in expressing concern about the “greedy and senseless exploitation of nature”, a theme at the forefront of all our minds today as we grapple with the myriad threats to the future of our planet.
FFI has very fond memories of our own association with The Duke of Edinburgh, which dates back many decades. We are extremely grateful for the encouragement that His Royal Highness provided for our work. The congratulatory telegram that Prince Philip sent in 1962 following our successful rescue mission to save the Arabian oryx from extinction still takes pride of place in our historical records.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Her Majesty The Queen, who served as Patron of FFI for almost seven decades before her grandson, Prince William took over that role in October 2020.”
