It is with deep sadness that we report the death of Dr Tony Whitten, a deeply loved husband and father, a truly remarkable conservationist and a dear colleague and friend, whose tireless work and passion inspired all who knew him.

We are currently exploring how to pay tribute to this wonderful man, and will be sharing news on this in due course so that all who knew and loved him can join if they wish.

Tony’s family has said: “We are truly grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends and colleagues around the world. At this time we would appreciate it if any messages and memories could be sent to the addresses below so we can read them when we are ready. We can’t and don’t want to imagine a future without him, but we know his legacy will continue in so many ways.”

You can send any messages of support by email to: [email protected] or by post: c/o Ros Aveling, Fauna & Flora International, The David Attenborough Building, Pembroke Street, Cambridge. CB2 3QZ. UK.

FFI is also currently collecting donations towards Tony’s memorial fund on behalf of his family. All money raised will be put towards environmental conservation projects that were close to Tony’s heart.
