Chris is a communications and fundraising specialist having worked with and for a number of well-known national and international NGOs. His principal interests lie in private philanthropy, or how citizens can make societies do the responsible things they otherwise would avoid doing - conserving the environment being a particularly good example.
On Monday evening Channel 4’s Dispatches series presented a documentary to audiences in the UK entitled Conservation’s Dirty Secrets.
During the show various well-established and well-known international organisations were associated with human rights abuses, questionable commercial relationships and failures to invest properly in conservation science. The show also concluded with observations regarding the virtues of working with populations and communities who live close to the wildlife and wild places conservation organisations seek to protect.
Although Fauna & Flora International (FFI) was not featured in the programme, we understand many viewers may have questions about conservation practices worldwide. We always work in partnership with local organisations and communities to make sure that the interests of people coincide with the interests of conservation.
We want our supporters or anyone interested in FFI’s conservation activities around the world to understand our work as clearly as we do. We encourage you to get in touch with us if you are concerned that FFI might be associated with any of the above, or if you wish to discuss the content of the documentary.
If you would like to comment on the programme and the issues raised, do please get in touch either by making your comment here or sending an email to [email protected].
