Clear Snares, Save Sun Bears
Please donate whatever you’re able to buy crucial snare-clearing equipment.
Snares are rapidly building up throughout the sun bear’s forest home and – unless we keep them in check – it could spell disaster. Without action, we could soon be facing a world where these marvellous and ecologically essential animals are lost forever.
But the rangers we support won’t let that happen. If warden leaders have the funding to pay their community patrol teams, and those teams have the equipment to patrol through thick jungle, they can stop sun bears from falling prey to these brutal traps.
They need your help to do that. Please donate now and get the patrols on the move.
It could save a sun bear’s life and the health of the entire forest area that the sun bear sustains.
Sun bears are the smallest bears on the planet. Enigmatic and endearing, they spend their time clambering around Southeast Asia’s jungles, searching for insects, eating honey and digging holes.
In doing so, they play a pivotal role in many tropical forests – they create nesting holes for birds, aerate soils for saplings and protect trees from insect blights. They’ve gained their name from the golden patch on their chest, said to resemble the rising sun.
But their population is plummeting.
These wonderful animals want little more than to be left alone. Unless they’re feeling threatened, they keep themselves to themselves and avoid conflict with humans – hiding away in the wild to look for insects and honey.
Their homes are being ripped to shreds; they’re stumbling into human communities, causing devastation for bear and human alike; they are being slaughtered at scale to feed a social-climbing bushmeat fad; and their populations are being ripped apart by indiscriminate snaring.
Our rangers need to stop that happening, and need your donations to help do so.
