Mindful of Georgia's biodiversity

NACRES is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, founded in 1989. Its mission is to safeguard the biodiversity of Georgia and the South Caucasus, through conservation activities at national and local levels, based on sound science, sustainability principles and local participation. In 2004, NACRES requested assistance from Fauna & Flora International to train its staff and support their institutional development. This involved:

  • Organizational support, specifically for the governance and management structure of NACRES, to improve transparency and efficiency among governance and management structures and improve the organization’s regional profile;
  • Staff training and organizational capacity building to develop projects that fulfil both NACRES and the Eurasia Programme strategy, addressing key areas and core themes.

Over the lifetime of the project, Fauna & Flora International developed organizational links to improve NACRES and Fauna & Flora International’s profile in Georgia and in the region, for example, creating the potential for trans-boundary projects with Azerbaijan.
