The BHP Billiton and Fauna & Flora International (FFI) partnership is a three-year alliance  to address immediate threats to globally threatened species and their ecosystems in four regions around the world.

Through the facilitation of relationships between BHP Billiton staff and FFI staff in-country, the two organisations will:

  • Help communities address immediate threats to threatened mammal species in Guinea, Liberia, Mozambique and northern Vietnam by supporting species conservation and ecosystem management action on the ground
  • Build expertise and capacity within local agencies and FFI globally to increase the organisation’s effectiveness at addressing critical conservation issues
  • Foster a conservation-minded community within BHP Billiton by engaging senior employees in the project and increasing their understanding and awareness of biodiversity associated with BHP Billiton operations

BHP Biliton is also supporting FFI’s Flagship Species Fund, which demonstrates the company’s role as a key supporter of crucial species protection work. The Flagship Species Fund is a scheme co-founded by the UK Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and managed by FFI.
