We believe that the most effective and long-term solutions to safeguard species and habitats lie in local hands. Capacity development for us is about helping people build expertise and access the resources they need to own and deliver conservation. This concept is at the heart of Fauna & Flora International’s work.
Our approach has always been through partnership – a mutually-beneficial relationship with a common purpose, in which each partner brings something to the table. We provide long-term, tailored support directly to those who ask for our assistance to build their technical, institutional and leadership capacity.
In order to address conservation challenges, FFI works with a diversity of people, ranging from government agencies, corporations and non-governmental organisations to local community co-operatives and individuals. We help them access resources, knowledge, skills and tools to conserve biodiversity effectively.
Conservation Capacity Programme
FFI has established a Conservation Capacity Programme to act as a focal point for our capacity building activities. This programme focuses on three key objectives:
• to strengthen effectiveness of our local partner institutions
• to develop conservation leadership skills
• to share information and lessons learnt
