Making national REDD+ more effective – lessons from pilot implementation and forest certification

Date: Friday 4 December 2015
Time: 16:45-18:15
Location: Paris-Le Bourget site – Observer Room 8

What role does sustainable forest management play in the battle against climate change? How can we harness REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) and forest certification to cut carbon emissions while simultaneously reducing poverty and conserving biodiversity?

To find out, join Fauna & Flora International (FFI), the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and OroVerde-Tropical Forest Foundation at our COP21 side event on 4 December.

At the event, experts from FFI, FSC and OroVerde will explore lessons learned from site-level REDD+, and discuss how the use of voluntary standards and existing forestry certification tools can inform national REDD+ action plans and the implementation of safeguards.

Policy briefs

In preparation for COP21, FFI has also created five policy briefings that draw on key lessons from five years of REDD+ piloting in Vietnam and elsewhere.

These briefings are designed to support jurisdictional, nested and national REDD+ development, and are available to download from Fauna & Flora International’s website.

The briefings have been made possible thanks to the generous support of the European Union REDD+ Facility, hosted by the European Forestry Institute (EFI).
